Here we have a definition of faith, it's being sure of what we hope for and convinced of what we do not see. So, because you hope to live for ever then you are certain that there is an afterlife, being particularly convinced because there is no evidence to support any sort of living after death. Is that right? Actually reading on there are some examples of the faith of various OT characters, who are all exalted for doing things because God told them it would work out OK, even though many of them didn't receive their promised reward.

Apparently Moses was suffering abuse for Christ, bit before his time there.

Any Christians not suffering for their faith are not being disciplined as a son would be by a loving but strict father so are not legitimate. No wonder modern western Christians like to claim they are being oppressed despite often representing the majority/established religion. If they don't make sure they are suffering in some way then God doesn't love them enough.

Ah well, it ends with some reminders to be nice to each other, you can't ever disagree with those parts.

Thanks to a couple of people who commented on yesterday's post for pointing out that Hebrews was written to the Jewish people. I was sort of coming to that conclusion when they were listing OT characters and stating how much better Jesus is than them, more of that today.

So, basically a whole book of the bible is dedicated to 'my religion is better than yours' (or my covenant is more faultless than yours) directed at the Jews. From the outside this all seems a bit petty.

A bit of 'the sacrifice in my religion is superior to the ones in yours' (Jesus' blood versus the blood of goats and sheep).

Also, the punishment for rejecting the OT laws was merely death, having contempt for Jesus and insulting the Holy Spirit will lead to a terrifying ordeal at the hands of a vengeful God.

Oh dear, the poor angels aren't as important to God as Jesus is, and they have to worship him, I hope that didn't cause any tension in heaven.

Apparently it is the devil who holds the power of death and Jesus has destroyed him through his death, so why are we still worried about the devil?

Now Jesus is better than Moses.

God can see everything, no creature is hidden from him. Big Brother much?

The people this has been written for are apparently having difficulty understanding all there is to say, which is apparently hard to explain.

You can only swear an oath by something greater than yourself, so God swore his oath to Abraham on himself because there's nothing greater. Is your own honour greater than you, because that's all you can swear an oath on in the end.
