Psalm 148: A call for every person and living thing to praise God
Psalm 149: Saints are trained killers employed to execute heathens apparently
Psalm 150: All I want to do, all I want to do, all I want to do is praise him (the parody song repeats after 48 seconds)

Psalm 140: God is not to grant the desires of the wicked and to cast them into deep pits of fire, is that the first mention of a hell-type place?
Psalm 141: Another 'I'm good, do bad things to wicked people' prayer
Psalm 142: Someone else who's only hope and support is God
Psalm 143: See 141
Psalm 144: This person wants God to use lightning to subdue the people so they'll follow him blindly and won't ever complain. Religion is a proven tool for controlling people, and telling them that scary natural phenomenon come from an angry God will definitely help with that.
Psalm 145: Another sucking up psalm.

Just one more day of Psalms to go, is the next book any better?

Psalm 133: I can't deny that it's good for brethren to live together in peace, but that holds true whatever gods or none these brethren follow
Psalm 134: Bless the Lord because he made it heaven and earth
Psalm 135: And he deserves praise because he can easily slay large numbers of enemies

Psalm 137: ♫By the rivers of Babylon
Psalm 138: "All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth." Well, probably not...
Psalm 139: Claims that God is all knowing & all seeing, watching this particular person from the womb and knowing what they're going to say all the time. Creepy much?
wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)

Psalm 120: Another believer despairing at being surrounded by peace hating non-believers
Psalm 121: God protects you from everything - except himself presumably
Psalm 122: Someone who enjoys visiting the house of God and a description of Jerusalem
Psalm 123: God is like the master of a servant

Psalm 126: It's good to be sad when you sow your crops because you'll be happy when reaping them?
Psalm 127: Apparently this psalm is used as justification for that Quiverfull movement, lots and lots of children whatever the cost
Psalm 128: Which leads to seeing your wife as merely a vessel for producing all those children
Psalm 129: More asking God to see that those who are against Israel don't prosper

This guy really loves following God's laws, thinks his words are so sweet, and he hopes he'll be recognised for this sucking up or zeal as he calls it.

Apparently keeping God's laws makes this person more knowledgeable than the ancients, are those people that came before Adam and Eve or other gods?

This psalm is apparently very long, so my plan splits it over 2 days!

This first half is fairly typical, some believer is telling God just how much he believes in everything God is about, and he's also shocked than anyone would not believe in God. He wants God to show him mercy and favour because of how well he's followed God's laws, and to help him keep it up.

Psalm 115: These believers seem very smug that they are able to have faith in a God they can't see, unlike the heathens who have to make idols of silver and gold to worship. The idols are apparently merely the work of men's hands, why the constant belittling of what humans make and invent?
Psalm 116: Another typical psalm, someone who believes God helped them when they were in trouble and will now praise him whenever they can
Psalm 117: Ok, that's a short one!
Psalm 118: "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man." Wow, seriously? As a humanist I find that quite offensive, the bible isn't just misogynistic, it's also very misanthropic
wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)
[personal profile] wolfpurplemoon

wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)
[personal profile] wolfpurplemoon
Psalm 106: Going over past events, back to Moses and all the sins committed by his people and how their enemies were smited for enslaving them
Psalm 107: God can calm a storm to allow some believers safe passage, and then dry up rivers and make land barren because of the wicked people there.
wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)

Psalm 103: I've read Verse 5 in several translations, and still can't fathom what "so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's" means. One version dropped it all together! :EDIT: OK, apparently there is a well known myth (not by me) that eagles shed their feathers and beaks at the age of 40 and then regrow them and live another 30 years. That's just crazy.
Psalm 104: Praising God for all the stuff he made, with a little tagged on plea to kill wicked people
Psalm 105: A reminder of the events of Exodus

I'm just over half way through now, I've kept this up for 6 months!!

Psalm 92: Brutish men and fools are not intelligent enough to know God's very deep thoughts
Psalm 93: God has strong clothes and is mightier than the strongest waves
Psalm 94: It seems that questioning God for not dealing with the wicked scares the writers of these verses because they have to still grovel and praise a being that doesn't deserve it
Psalm 95: A call to worship
wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)
[personal profile] wolfpurplemoon
Psalm 86: More praising God for his mercy while begging for it
Psalm 87: The people of a certain city are particularly loved by God
Psalm 88: Someone who is suffering and doesn't want to die because then they won't be able to praise God
Psalm 89: This stuff is so repetitive, this psalm is another one that starts with praising God for his works and then asking where he's gone and then ending with a kissing up line
wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)
[personal profile] wolfpurplemoon
Psalm 80: A prayer from someone who says God has turned away from Israel and has done some bad things to his people. They will still worship him though...
Psalm 81: This appears to be God's answer to 80, he thinks that Israel didn't listen to him so he gave up on them.
Psalm 82: Continuing the theme started in 80 & 81
Psalm 83: OK, I get it, God will smite enemies of those who follow him without question, I'm just not sure I know why this is a good thing

Psalm 85: Blah blah, God is being mean, blah blah.
wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)

Psalm 79: More begging God to pour his scorn on heathens
wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)
[personal profile] wolfpurplemoon
Psalm 74: An oppressed believer confused at why God hasn't struck down his blasphemous enemies who destroyed God's synagogues.(I certainly can't think why they haven't been destroyed...)
Psalm 75: "For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south." so, it comes from the north?
Psalm 76: God saves the meek
Psalm 77: God's mercy has gone but this person will remember all his 'great' works anyway.

[personal profile] wolfpurplemoon

wolfpurplemoon: a woman with long red hair wearing glasses and a deadpool t-shirt (wolfbiblemoon)
[personal profile] wolfpurplemoon
Psalm 58: An apparent advocating of the killing of new born babies because wicked people are that way from birth
Psalm 59: I'm fairly certain I read this one already, are these psalms on repeat?
Psalm 60: God has favourite nations and is mean about the ones he doesn't like
Psalm 61: A prayer that includes a request to keep the king alive for a long time (God save the King/Queen?)
Psalm 62: Now that's what I call repetition, I think God is a rock but I can't be certain
