Joshua dies, but first he recaps the history of his people so far, from before the flood, via slavery in Egypt, past genocide and into the current resting from slaughter, and reminds them to follow the laws of Moses or else.

* At this time in biblical history God doesn't forgive any sins and death is the end, Joshua doesn't have any delusions of there being an afterlife once he's dead aged 110, he's 'going the way of all the earth'.

Details of the division of the land the Israelites have taken so far. And the fact that despite God's promise that they'll be able to drive out anyone they come across there are some people that won't leave. God's promises are worth a lot obviously.

More smiting for the sake of smiting

* Since the Israelites have been led by Joshua, they have slaughtered thousands of people just because God told them to. They've only 'made peace' with one city and rather than kill them they were made slaves.

* They made war for a long time but now the land rests from war, which'll be a nice change of pace.

The relentless God-driven march of the Israelites continues as they seek to take land from other peoples.

* God can also part the river Jordan as he did the Red Sea, though this time they weren't in a hurry or running from their oppressors so probably would've been fine making a few boats, or a bridge?

* They are about to take Jericho and kill everyone except the family of a harlot who sheltered the Israelite spies and lied to her own people about where they were and why they were in Jericho. She seems fine with this bizarre arrangement and is presumably not going to do anything as rash as perhaps warning her people that a vast army is coming to slaughter them all.
