Samson is born (after a weird deal his parents make with an angel) and then goes and slaughters large numbers of people and wild animals with either his bare hands or just anything he found lying about. It's OK though, he's blessed by the Lord and goes on these killing sprees when the Lord's spirit 'comes upon' him. I think that that excuse is overused.

Ok, you have a point that saying 'the spirit told me so' doesn't excuse murder. But i don't know if that is the case here. Imagine you are living under such an oppressive government you are actually forced to believe in God, and beaten if you don't as well as stolen of all your families tradition and forced to practice cult worship. Then you decide to put an end to this and free your people. . Even with God out of the picture, this is pretty much the story of any major revolutionary event in history.
