Ruth is a pretty nice story in comparison to recent chapters and books. There is a total lack of God's interference, noone is slaughtered and people are actually getting along and being kind to each other.

Ruth's dedication to her widowed Mother-in-law even after she loses her own husband is very touching, and it continues after Ruth remarries as she keeps her Mother-in-law around to help look after the baby.

Ruth (the book) shows some of the many laws being put into practice in day to day life, like the leaving of crops during harvest for the poor to collect and that a widow is to marry a relation of her dead husband. The man Ruth marries is a relation of her Father-in-law who doesn't sleep with Ruth when she throws herself at him, he admits he knows of a closer relative who'd have first refusal of Ruth and the family land and checks with him first before agreeing to the marriage.

That was a welcome change of pace.

Agreed. Ruth is one of the few books that doesn't make me scream.

Ruth shows us what happens when a person acknowledges God, tries to please God by doing what is right, and makes a commitment to God and God's people. Ruth did not throw herself at Boaz. She laid at his feet as a sign of servitude.

Ch 2:11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been showed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother-in-law since the death of thy husband; and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people that thou knewest not heretofore.12 Jehovah recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of Jehovah, the God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to take refuge.

There are many characters in the bible that are types or that represent Christs character. When we read Ruth this again can be seen. Gods love for the world can be seen through Ruth, JUst like Christ she gave her utmost all to serve and be by her mum in law. Boaz just like Christ became Ruths redeemer as is Christ to us. Naomi a humble woman embraced Ruth and her sister into her family even though she was not considered a Jew like Christ he is not a respecter of persons and very willingly shows kindness to all. God allowed the trials to happen to both Ruth and naomi simply as an act of love. Tough love! Through their trials they stayed faithful and was blessed. God intervened by guiding Ruth back to a Loving man in Boaz (type of Christ) who offered her protection and happiness. God could have allowed Ruth to be raped but did not. Ruths faith in God who she only new through Naiomi was what God was rewarding, simple unassuming faith. Guess what that is all that God wants from us.
