2 Samuel 1-3
May. 13th, 2010 09:27 pmSaul's death now happened differently from the previous book. David is incredibly upset to find out that Saul's son Jonathan is dead, the man whose 'love to [him] was wonderful, passing the love of women'.
David uses God as a sat nav, asking him where he should go and which direction.
David is appointed king over a single house and one of Saul's surviving sons claims dominion over everything else. He's a typical biblical 'nice' guy, at one point killing a guy who's only crime seems to have been following him around.
There is of course a long war between those who follow David and those who follow Saul's line, which David slowly wins.
While all this is going on, David increases his number of wives to 7, though he has to first get Saul's daughter back (who he originally bought with enemy foreskins). She's been given to another man who is very upset at losing her.

Clarity
Date: 2011-04-21 09:58 pm (UTC)I hope you realize that the book is a chronicle or a history book detailing EVERYTHING that happened. INCLUDING a guy who lied about killing Saul.
Also, the wives thing: In those days, as you probably know (but inferred something else), kings made peace treaties by taking wives. It was a contract - and did not necessarily include physical intimacy.
If you are truly wanting to give God's word a fair shake, how about studying it like a scholar instead of finding surface level examples supporting your unbelief?
Otherwise, you would still be in the same place as you started. Pretty much like cheating at exercising: why do it if you are only cheating yourself?
Just a thought - no offence meant :)
