It is better to be poor & shunned by friends and family (because they don't like poor people) and have integrety than to be wealthy and loved by all for being generous. Sorry, can't get my head around that one, why would anyone shun an otherwise good person just because they were poor?

A warning against binge drinking.

Provoking a king to anger is a sin, but I'm sure the king's own wrath is a sin in itself.

God made ears to hear and eyes to see, why did he do such a shoddy job then.

"Beatings and wounds cleanse away evil, and floggings cleanse the innermost being." God likes BDSM!

A certain amount of truth in 21:2, people normally do see themselves as being in the right.

Making your fortune through lying is a sin, that's for sure.

These proverbs feel so jumbled up, some verses are repeated several times worded slightly differently and most are pretty much saying the same thing. This book could've been shorter.

If you don't know the true Author and Holy Spirit who inspired the Bible, you will never ever understand Holy Scripture. Without being a child of the Most High, it will be like reading somebody else's mail-- seeing contradictions and inconsistancies where there are none! The Bible, humanly speaking, was written by over 40 men from all walks of life over a period of two thousand years, but there is a consistancy that could only come from being inspired by the true Author who is not constrained by time or plac

I'm a believer and completely disagree with you. You come to know "the Author" (or God) by reading the Bible. Otherwise, how do you get to know him?

Why would you come to a blog of someone who is willingly reading the bible when they are an atheist and shun them? They're trying to understand, and you are just making a bad name for Christians by degrading them.

Ok, so I don't think it's saying that friends and family hate people just because they're poor. It's saying that it's better to be poor and disliked but still have your integrity than it is to be rich and generous.

Integrity > generosity

I think this comes from the idea that you can be generous without your heart really being in it. If I had a million dollars, and I gave it to charity because it would make them like me, that's the wrong motivation to give it to charity. However, if I did it because I felt like it was heavy on my heart to give and help people less fortunate (without caring what people thought of me for giving it), then you're giving with integrity.

If you're poor and having integrity, it's better than being rich without integrity.

He did a good job making them, we just don't do a good job using them.
