Jeremiah was specially chosen by God before he was even conceived, but he was told this when he was a boy and was understandably sceptical that he would be expected to do anything for God. God says not to worry because Jeremiah is just going to be doing and saying what God tells him to so he's doesn't need to think for himself.

God is upset that his chosen people went and joined in with the religions that use sex as part of their rituals. I'm not sure quite why this God is always so upset by and obsessed with sex.

God compares himself to a man who lost his wife to another man, and says that he'd never take her back as if nothing happened, so why should he take Israel back after they've gone and tried out other gods for a while.

God has planned what to say when Israel comes back to him, but they don't come back.

The rival religions were popular and were duping many people into following them, I guess God is jealous that he hadn't thought of a good hook to make his religion more popular at the time.

That has nothing to do with the word of God.

I just want to add a helpful suggestion wolfpurplemoon..The thing is reading a book with a preconceived notion does little in the way of understanding its contents..and that goes for any book even the Bhagavad Gita..its the same as a religious hothead scanning a book to prove a point..one to which his understanding already has a bent and everything therefore will be proof. To benefit, (or not) from reading, it might be helpful to try reading the book as one would any other form of literature, absent-minded for a second of any existing pro or con. This is also the most critical way to access anything I may add.
