Psalms 103-105
Aug. 10th, 2010 09:47 pmPsalm 103: I've read Verse 5 in several translations, and still can't fathom what "so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's" means. One version dropped it all together! :EDIT: OK, apparently there is a well known myth (not by me) that eagles shed their feathers and beaks at the age of 40 and then regrow them and live another 30 years. That's just crazy.
Psalm 104: Praising God for all the stuff he made, with a little tagged on plea to kill wicked people
Psalm 105: A reminder of the events of Exodus
I'm just over half way through now, I've kept this up for 6 months!!

Date: 2010-12-27 10:34 pm (UTC)I'm intrigued with all of the comments, and your resolve to read through the entire bible.
I'm a Christian, and have been for 20+ years. I'm on my third trip through the bible, plus a miriad of spot readings through Church and other personal reading plans.
Personally, the new testament helps me more to make sense of things, but even at this stage of my Faith, , I'm unsure of how to interpret certain things, and some of what my translations purport to be God's logic.
I understand that this is where Faith comes in. I choose to believe, and have Faith. I know that it's a choice, not always logical. I also choose while not agreeing with everything that I read, (or at least the way it's interpreted and translated)
Guess what? It's not always easy to believe. Many devout Christians doubt things they read. I'm amazed at how some make it seem so easy to blindly accept and believe. It hasn't worked that way for me, I'm a skeptic by nature (or by design).
However I cannot accept the thought that random occurances are responsible for my being, and for the events that surround my day tomorrow. I see too much evidence to the contrary, even though I don't understand it all.
Good luck with the balance of your reading.
