Different followers get different gifts because they are like organs in a body, if they were all eyes then they wouldn't be able to smell. This also means that everyone needs everyone else in order to be whole.

Love is the greatest out of faith, hope and love.

There is no point speaking in tongues if noone understands and it doesn't do anything to strengthen the church. It is better to use words to teach and prophecy. But women are not to talk at all, if they want to ask a question in church they should wait till they get home and ask their husband.

One view I heard as to why women were mentioned for speaking is that women didn't have a chance to learn with the men in a setting as such previously, or learn scripture on an equal level as a man.

I thought all Jewish kids were raised in hopes of being taken under the wing of a Rabbi, and if they weren't by 13 or so they would just continue to be brought up in the family trade.

With the other disciples, they spent three years with Jesus, so they were learning scripture for three years. And spending time with the Messiah will get you to know something.

You have to remember that these books are letters Paul is writing, so he is specifically talking to a certain group of people. The thing about the women not being able to preach wasn't necessarily because they were women and Paul was being sexist, but because they had just accepted christ and weren't as knowledgeable as the other men. The men were taught scripture from birth. Also he didn't mean for the women to never preach, just not to the more knowledgeable males. Once again, it was the culture.
